Which type of alarm detector is suitable for my project?

By Hommax

Choosing the right type of sensors to install can determine the success of the project. An efficient alarm system sensor will detect any unwanted intrusion and can prevent unfortunate circumstances.

The main function of an alarm detector is to warn of the presence of an element that should not be there: intruder, fire, gas, etc. In addition, intrusion detectors have the capacity to have a dissuasive effect on criminals, which in most cases causes them to abandon their intention of burglary.

Depending on the technology used for their operation, we can differentiate between various alarm detectors. It should be borne in mind that technology is advancing by leaps and bounds, so the accuracy and reliability of the different types of security detectors is advancing with it. Let's see what types of detectors, according to their technology, we currently have:

Types of detectors

- Motion sensors

They use waves to detect a movement in the area to be monitored. These frequencies bounce off walls, ceilings and objects in the area and are imperceptible to the human ear. They trigger the alarm when a physical change is detected in the area.

For commercial environments where a Grade 3 security system is required, the DT HONEYWELL DT8016AF4 volumetric detector may be a good choice. This detector has a total of five patents to improve reliability, installation and to avoid false alarms.

If the project is for a residential installation, the DT8320 DUAL TEC® series of motion detectors will meet the project requirements perfectly. Ceiling mounted and with anti-masking technology, it ensures that an incident condition is immediately sent to the control panel. Offering a 360º field of vision and wide coverage.

- Infrared detectors (PIR)

This type of detector measures the temperature of the environment and the object. When the temperature is altered, an alarm signal is generated. This infrared technology is widely used in night surveillance cameras.

The FLX-A-AM detector features a new Grade 3 indoor sensor with very high capture performance and advanced sensitivity settings for greater accuracy and reliability. It features a rotating lens for wide and narrow detection in a single sensor. Designed for high security sites.

- Dual or mixed technology detector

As the name suggests, it uses the two technologies described above to offer greater reliability and accuracy in detecting stimuli and is therefore usually more efficient. Depending on the function of the type of security detector, we differentiate between several types.

The DT OPTEX FLX-A-DAM-X5 detector contains a new Grade 3 indoor sensor with very high detection performance and advanced sensitivity settings for increased accuracy and reliability. In addition, it features the rotating lens for wide and narrow detection in a single sensor. Designed for high security sites.

- Fire detector

Detects the presence of smoke and warns of the danger of a possible fire. They give the alarm warning before combustion is generated and are even capable of warning of fires generated by materials that burn without producing smoke, such as liquids or chemicals.

We highlight detectors such as the MORLEY MI-PSE-S2I and MORLEY MI-PSE-S2I-IV. Both comply with the latest advances in hardware and software technology, and are very effective in detecting smoky fires. They incorporate line short-circuit isolators, allowing the entire analogue loop to be protected in accordance with EN54-14.

As we have seen, there is a wide variety of security detectors, especially designed to cover from the most general needs to the most specific ones, differentiating also by a greater or lesser level of security depending on the requirements of the installation.

Often, the project requires the installation of a comprehensive security system. Combining the different types of security detectors together with anti-injury sensors (fire, gas and flood) to guarantee global protection.

With Hommax, choose the most suitable detector for your projects and don't hesitate to guarantee the security of what matters most to your customers.
